My Freshman Year pg. 1-40

While I was reading this it sounded a lot like my freshman year. In the beginning there were a lot of group activities to get to know everyone on your floor. I found it interesting during the reading that the author really was overwhelmed in her college experience. I think a lot of people don't understand just how much students have to do while they are in college. Our schedules are no longer like the ones we had in high school where we were in class till 2 o'clock everyday and then had about an hour or two of homework each night. College students can have class until 9 at night, which is a big adjustment for people. One of the skills that I thought the author touched on perfectly was how everyones schedule and routine is different. If we want to hang out with friends it takes a lot of effort to coordinate a time that works for all of us.
In one part of the book it talks about the decorations in the hallways that are made by the RA's, and while I was reading this it sound just like my building. When we all got here our names were on the door and the hallway was decorated. I agree with the author when she explains the differences between the girls and the boys doors. The girls on my floor would decorate their door for a holiday or just of pictures of their friends, while the boys did not decorate their doors.
When the author Rebekah Nathan commented on the pictures that people have in their rooms, I started to think of the pictures that I have up in my room. Most of them are of my friends and very little of them are of my family. Also I have pictures that my friends and I are making funny faces or we are in a funny pose. I started to think why did I put those pictures on my wall?? Why do I not have more pictures of my family?
I found it interesting that Rebekah did not even know her way around her own campus. You would think that because she has worked there for years she would know where everything was. I also thought that she should have conducted this research at another University. I think because she already knew some of the other professors and some of the buildings, it was not great research. Overall I think this was a good experience, and more people should take part in it.

Ethnography pg. 1-26

I did not enjoy reading this as much as I did the other book. I could not really understand what the authors were trying to say. Although I did not know that other cultures learn more then one language. I think we should incorporate this into American society. I think it is so important for people to know more then one language.
